Tips For Traveling to Maui With Babies & Toddlers
Tips For Traveling to Maui With Babies & Toddlers
As a seasoned traveler and Maui family photographer, I understand the unique challenges and joys that come with exploring Maui with Babies and toddlers. From capturing unforgettable family moments, to navigating the Island’s stunning (and sometimes challenging landscapes and climates), let me help guide you through some of the most helpful tips to make things a bit more easier on you…because parents, we all know how it is 🥴
Plan ahead for Maui Family Photos
Before you even set foot on the Island, consider scheduling a family photoshoot with one of Maui’s best family photographers, like myself! It’s always a fun adventure, and something you’ll regret NOT doing looking back on your time here. Plus, all photographers here on Maui are invaluable resources on well…just about everything! Ask us where to eat, stay, things to do and we’ll gladly recommend activities or retreats appropriate for your family.
Choose Family-Friendy Accommodations
Finding the right accommodations is KEY to an stress-free vacation. Dare I say…POOL, POOL, POOL. Look for family-friendly resorts or vacation rentals that offer amenities like kids pools, water slides, cribs, refrigerators, microwaves, high chairs and child proofing services. Many resorts in Maui also have Kids Clubs and activities to keep your little ones entertained while you relax and unwind with a nice Mai Tai or Lavaflow 🍹 Some of my personal favorites are: The Grand Wailea, The Marriott Ocean Club in Wailea, Honua Kai, The Westin Nanea, and The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa.
Pack Wisely for Family Excursions & Adventures
Maui’s diverse landscapes and plethora of micro-climates offer endless opportunities for family fun. Be sure to pack essentials like sunscreen, hats, swimsuits, warm clothing, towels, a change of clothing, and plenty of snacks and water for your little adventurers (and you!). I highly recommend just keeping these things in your car at all times so you’re always prepared. Don’t forget to bring a sturdy baby carrier or stroller for exploring uneven terrain, and consider renting any bulky baby gear to lighten your load. I highly recommend Maui Vacation Equipment for all your rental needs!
Embrace Nature & the Hawaiian Culture
Hawaii is special in so many ways. From the views, to the food, and especially, the culture. Embrace local culture and immerse yourself in some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Hop in your car and drive the Road to Hana and stop as much as you can….take it all in. Consider not wearing shoes too often either…feel the energy of the land as you slow down and unwind.
Be Flexible and Take it Slow
Above all, remember to take it slow and enjoy every moment with your little ones in Maui. There’s a time change for everyone, so allow the patience as every adjusts, especially for nap times. Embrace the laid-back island lifestyle and don’t be afraid to adjust your plans based on your children’s needs and preferences. Whether you're spending a day building sandcastles on the beach or hiking through the lush valley of Iao State Park, cherish these precious moments together as a family.

Are you planning a family vacation to the Island of Maui with your little ones in tow? From pristine beaches to lush rainforests, Maui offers a TON of experiences that are perfect for families with babies & toddlers. As a parent and professional Maui family photographer, I understand the importance of creating unforgettable memories with your little adventurers…so let’s get started on some of my best recommendations! 👣
Here are my personal Top 5 child-friendly activities on Maui:
Maluaka Beach - Maui, HI
Beach Day Extravaganza
Maui is renowned for its stunning beaches with powdery sands and friendly waters, making it an ideal playground for your little beachcombers. Pack a beach bag with essentials like sunscreen, hats, towels, and plenty of snacks, and head to family-friendly beaches like Baby Beach at Baldwin Beach (on Maui’s North Shore). Just be sure to go early to avoid the higher winds that typically frequent the area!; Airport Beach in Ka’anapali near the Westin KOR; Kamaole Beach Park (1, 2 or 3) in Kihei, or Maluaka Beach in Wailea area. Let your little ones splash in the gentle waves, build lots of sandcastles, and explore tide pools teeming with marine life.
Oh…and don't forget to capture those precious moments with a family photo session against the backdrop of Maui's breathtaking coastline 😉
Dive into an underwater wonderland at the Maui Ocean Center, where your littles can marvel at Hawaii’s vibrant marine life without getting wet. From beautiful jellyfish exhibits to interactive touch pools, to the coolest underwater tunnel in the Islands - there's something to captivate every curious mind - even you Mom & Dad. Be sure to check the center's schedule for daily feedings and educational presentations tailored to young audiences. There’s also a cute little playground for your littles AND a café right next door that has some yummy food, snacks (and plenty of ice cream!). Who doesn’t like lots of ice cream?! 🍦
Bonus: They have free mineral sunblock stations all around the park, so you & your littles won’t be kissed too much by Maui’s strong sunshine!
Surfing Goat Dairy
Upcountry Farm Adventures
Escape the coastal crowds and travel Upcountry for an unforgettable farm adventure! Visit family-friendly farms like Surfing Goat Dairy or Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm, where little ones can pet friendly animals, explore fragrant lavender fields, and savor delicious farm-fresh treats and local delights. Don't miss the opportunity to capture adorable moments of your little farmers frolicking amidst the lush countryside, surrounded by panoramic views of Maui's majestic landscapes. Don’t forget to bring some warm clothing, too. Upcountry has a climate alllll it’s own, and it’s usually a bit chilly!
Step into a lush oasis at the Maui Tropical Plantation, where families can enjoy a leisurely tram tour through exotic fruit orchards and fragrant botanical gardens. Little ones will be enchanted by the sights and scents of mango groves, pineapple fields, and coconut palms. After the tour, explore the plantation's family-friendly attractions, including a coconut husking demonstration, zip line adventure, and artisanal shops offering locally made souvenirs and treats. You can also buy duck food at the General Store to feed the ducks at the pond - it’s sure to create some adorable memories! Be sure to bring baby wipes to clean up afterwards 🙃
Nestled in the lush valleys of Maui, Hawaii, lies the breathtaking Iao Valley, a sanctuary of natural beauty and cultural significance. While many tourists flock to Maui's beaches, venturing into the heart of the island unveils a different kind of magic. Venture deep into the valley and be greeted by the sight of the iconic Iao Needle, a towering volcanic spire shrouded in mist and legend. You’re treated to sweeping vistas of lush rainforest, cascading waterfalls in every direction, and the winding path of the Iao Stream. It's a sight that will leave you speechless, a testament to the raw beauty of Maui's natural landscape. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a nature enthusiast, this enchanting destination offers something for everyone! *Make Reservations HERE before you go!
Maui offers a wealth of child-friendly activities that cater to the unique interests and energy levels of babies and toddlers. Whether you're splashing in the waves, exploring farmyard fun, or marveling at marine wonders, the memories you create together will be sure to last a lifetime.

Maui Maternity Love + Laughter
When Ryan first contacted me about a maternity session on Maui for her and her husband Dan, I could immediately tell they were a match made in laughter…
When Ryan first contacted me about a Maui maternity session for her and her husband Dan, I could immediately tell they were a match made in laughter…
Maybe it was the way she answered her Questionnaire, or maybe it’s because I started following them both on Instagram and adored the way they entertained each other; whatever it was…I was SO right! (Go me!)
From the parking lot, to the beach, then to the ocean, they made it really hard for me keep my camera focused b/c they couldn’t resist being so cute with one another. And the conversations we had together were even more great! Can we say “flooooowing”?! If these two lived on Maui, I would totally adopt them as friends!
Top 3 things I love about these two:
1) Even after almost 10 years, they STILL flirt as if it’s Day 1
2) They’re practically fish in the water 🐟
3) Their amazing hair!
So Ryan + Dan, thank you for bring along your whits, your love, your bump, and your all around awesomeness. I can’t wait to see the three of you again!
